What's New At Gates.com

As you can probably tell we have undergone a major rework of the Gates.com Web site to better serve your needs. This short guide will give you a quick overview of what we have done and how to use the Gates.com Web site. Also, as a result of the new Web site structure, all of our old content has moved, yet with the new layout you should be able to quickly locate what you were looking for.

Top Navigation

  1. At the top of the new Gates Web site you will now find standard and consistent navigation. This top-level navigation will stay consistent throughout the Web site making it easy to get back to the main levels of the Web site. It is here that you will find the main categories of the site.

  2. Next we have added a search toolbar to the Web site to aid you in finding specific information quickly. The whole Web site is now indexed and the search will help you locate information quickly.

  3. Finally, next to the search tool bar you will now find a header that will help you locate your top-level position in the site, which corresponds to the main navigation titles at the top. For instance in the news section it will read "News". So with a quick glance you will now know where you are. This in conjunction with another set of title bars explained below will make it very easy to always know where you are at on the site. And don't forget that the Gates logo will always take you back to the start.

Left Navigation, Main Page

  1. Along the left side of the Web site you will now find a sub-level navigation menu. Here you will find links to the site subsections. Click on the text link to go to a particular area.

  2. Along the top center, in most cases, you will now find a header that will let you know which subsection of the site you are in. So along with the main title navigation of the page as explained above you will be able to quickly pinpoint exactly where you are at in the site.

  3. Along with subsection headers you will now find explanations of the particular sections you visit describing the type of product or information provided in that area.

  4. Finally the main portion of the page will have titles describing the type of content, such as product literature, or tech tips, a title of a particular page, as well as detailed explanations of most of the content available.

Right Section

  1. The right section of the Web site will now be used to highlight important information as well as making "personalized" product recommendations. By registering at Gates.com and outlining your preferences we will use this section to recommend products and information from our site that match what you have stated you are interested in. As well this section will be used to highlight important information.

E-Z-Lit Toolbar

  1. The E-Z-LiteratureTM Toolbar can be found at the bottom of any product literature page. This will quickly grow from simply printing to allow emailing, and faxing of any product literature page on the Web site. This is meant to make it easy to take or send content offline in a nice format. Once you click on the Print button the page will be reformatted to remove all the extra content on the page so you get a clean brochure format. Once the new page opens up in a new browser window you will still need to hit the print button in your web browser, but now your page will be nicely formatted for printing.
